So this will be my first FreeNas build and I am curious if my hardware choices are smart or a little overkill. I plan using the server in a few different ways, 1) As a Plex media server 2) VM storage for my lab 3) General storage and as a learning experience with FreeNAS. Here is my current buildsheet, the case is still kind of up in the air as I'm not sure if I want a half rack in the office.

this is kinda old, but that board looks like a desktop part and as such is not recommended. also, while 8 GB RAM is the lowest limit, more that 16 GB would be recomended, as well as ECC.

the rosewill 4u's are pretty strong, you could put them on a desk and put stuff on top of them, as long as they can breathe from the front and back.
