First Build: Storing Music as FLAC

It's my understanding this is pretty similar to the build used by another user on here.

OS and Storage for OS: FreeNAS 11.3 on WD Blue 3D NAND 500GB Internal PC SSD - WDS500G2B0A

Motherboard: X11SSM-F

Memory: 4 * Supermicro 16GB 288-Pin DDR4 2400 (PC4 19200) Server Memory (MEM-DR416L-SL01-EU24)

CPU: Intel Core i3-7100 Kaby Lake Dual-Core 3.9 GHz LGA 1151 51W BX80677I37100 Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics 630

Case: Fractal Design Node 804

PSU:
Corsair Rm550x
I don't know if I need a higher wattage PSU

Storage:
4 * 12TB Shucked WD EasyStore Red Drives

500gb SSD is way overkill for FreeNAS, you could get the smallest ssd you can find for OS. If this machine is strictly for storing high quality audio, the whole machine might be overpowered, I like it.

Watch out for the 3D NAND TRIM bug... I don't know if it applies to the Blue, but the Green is certainly impacted.

It means that you either need to disable trim (whole system wide) or use another drive/brand.

The forum has generally reported good results with booting from cheap Kingston SSDs.

@bobs_ghost have you considered going the used route? You would end up saving a lot of money.

You haven't really specified your use case (other than storing music), so I don't want to start recommending components yet. What do you intend to do with the data? stream it? Do you intend to use the server for other media? Plex, Emby etc?

Any intentions of running multiple plugins? Nextcloud, Transmission/Deluge etc?
