Hi I recently bought a HP Proliant G7 n54l that I want to set up in to a FreeNAS box and I need a little help.

This is a hyperlink to the specs of the machine

Here is my question

1. I don't have a monitor to hook up to this box, does that matter? Is there any way to find out my freeNAS box IP address with no monitor?

If you need any more information please let me know I'll be happy to provide anything that I have missed out.

Thanks for helping me get past this hurdle. It's all a bit confusing to a n00b!

Assuming it got an IP address from your DHCP server, check it, to see what address it doled out. Is your "router" passing out IP addresses? If so, login and check it. One could also scan your subnet with a tool like nmap or a similiar utility from nirsoft.

While you can run your N54L headless, there are times when you may need to hook up a monitor temporarily, especially when you first set it up. If you plan to run ZFS, hopefully you replaced the stock RAM. I put 16Gb in mine.
