This is the "ScaleNAS for Testing" in my signature.
I just noticed a bunch of folder and files appear on my systemdataset pool.
/mnt/ScratchSSD used to have a SMB dataset and ix-applications dataset
I now have a bunch of files and folders as per the details below
drwxrwxr-x 5 999 21 May 5 20:51 ./ drwxr-xr-x 5 root 5 May 4 20:01 ../ -rw-r--r-- 1 root 17 May 5 20:45 GitHubVersions drwxrwxrwx+ 3 1000 3 Apr 16 17:02 SMB/ -rw-r--r-- 1 root 65 May 5 20:51 adlists.list -rw-r--r-- 1 root 0 May 5 20:44 custom.list -rw-r--r-- 1 999 0 May 5 20:44 dhcp.leases -rw-r--r-- 1 root 651 May 5 20:51 dns-servers.conf -rw-rw-r-- 1 999 7081984 May 5 20:51 gravity.db -rw-rw-r-- 1 999 7081984 May 5 20:51 gravity_old.db drwxr-xr-x 8 root 9 Apr 20 08:33 ix-applications/ -rw-r--r-- 1 root 2524593 May 5 20:51 list.1.raw.githubusercontent.com.domains -rw-r--r-- 1 root 95 May 5 20:44 list.1.raw.githubusercontent.com.domains.sha1 -rw-r--r-- 1 root 65 May 5 20:51 local.list -rw-r--r-- 1 root 20 May 5 20:51 localbranches -rw-r--r-- 1 root 39 May 5 20:51 localversions drwxr-xr-x 2 root 3 May 5 20:44 migration_backup/ -rw-rw-r-- 1 999 132 May 5 20:51 pihole-FTL.conf -rw-rw-r-- 1 999 81920 May 5 20:51 pihole-FTL.db -rw-r--r-- 1 root 241 May 5 20:51 setupVars.conf -rw-r--r-- 1 root 241 May 5 20:51 setupVars.conf.update.bak

I guess this is to do with the system dataset - but shouldn't they be hidden?
I even tried deleting them to see what happens - they just come back

This would make a neat-freak like myself have an anxiety attack.

Exactly. I am not the tidiest person around. My house if full of half finished projects, dead and semi-ressurected computers. But my data storage is tidy - I know where everyone of my files is. Its tidy.
I know the system dataset is using space and storing stuff - but I don't want to see it (that way I can pretend its not there)
Might report this as a bug - but can anyone else with Scale confirm if they can see the same thing on the latest (TrueNAS-SCALE-22.02.1) version or is it just me?

Did this start happening after a software update or after configuration changes?

Noticed it yesterday, after updating to latest scale. I did not notice it before the upgrade/update to TrueNAS-SCALE-22.02.1
I only noticed it when playing with a Init/Shutdown Script and searching for the script to run by traversing the folders. See attached as an example.

I had Init/Shutdown scripts on the previous version and when setting these up didn't notice the extra fluff before the upgrade

Fairly certain this is a result of the latest upgrade

Nope - I am an idiot
I lept to a 100% wrong conclusion
It was a container with a completely wrong setup - Oops
