Hi. I have just installed FreeNAS 9.1.1. My system doesn't yet meet the requirements (RAM is only 512mb) as I am just testing at the moment.

My issue. If I set up 2 shares in my drive, it duplicates the contents when I add a folder and/or a file via the file explorer

ie
Created in FreeNAS gui web page
Drive 1
->Media
->Docs

Now, I add a file to Media via file explorer
Drive 1
->Media
-->Films
->Docs
-->Films

If I create 2 shares but on different discs, then it works fine, however, this isn't how I want to set it up at the moment.

I hope I've made sense and hope someone can explain where I've gone wrong

Cheers

You need to learn the separation between mount point, and Fileshare. A fileshare is a point to a directory, not a directory itself unless you make it so. You could have 30 fileshares all named differently, pointing to the same location, and you would see the exact same thing. Files are not being duplicated, rather its the same file in the same directory, but with different FILESHARE names

I can understand the difference between mount point and FILESHARE.

How do I configure FreeNAS to get my Shares to point to different locations..?

Any help appreciated, cheers.....

You configure the shares to point to different directories. It isn't rocket surgery. It is literally point and click where you want them to go. Doesn't get any simpler once you actually go look at your shares in freenas
