What would be the fastest way to transfer about 552gb of data from a WDMyCloud NAS to FreeNAS?

I've tried doing it through windows, in /networks from NAS to NAS.
I get only about 5mb/s, and I'm using cat6 cabling. So I'm assuming windows temp local saves the files it's moving?

Thanks in advance

100Gigabit Ethernet. But not many home users can afford that.

Stick with 1G and it'll transfer in a couple hours or so.

As for transfer tools, the simplest is via a computer on the same network. For improved performance, if you have room, copy from the WD to the computer and then the computer to the FreeNAS.

You can also look into using rsync, but I don't know if the WD supports it.

Ok so I guess I was right, somehow windows must be temporarily storing each file as it propagates it through the network from one NAS to another NAS.

Therefore instead of using my laptop wireless, I've connected to the network via ethernet and now i'm getting about 90MB/sec is that about where it should be?

90MB is pretty darn good. That's almost a fully saturated 1Gb link. Difference is bytes and bits.

Wireless is horrible for this type of task because you are doubling the necessary throughput (read from WD then write to FreeNAS). And wireless is slow to begin with.
