I installed a FreeNAS 8.04 x86 replacing a FreeBSD build that was used as my NAS previously.
I'm installing onto an SSD that FreeBSD worked fine with. Also have a zpool of several disks with all my files that I want to transfer over to FreeNAS.

After installation the system starts booting and then stops at:

SMP: AP CPU #1 Launched!
SMP: AP CPU #3 Launched!
SMP: AP CPU #2 Launched!

I've tried installing onto a USB thumb drive. Same thing.

So, you suspect a hardware issue? How about a list of all your hardware then?

What version of FreeBSD did you have installed? FreeNAS 8 is based off FreeBSD 8.2.

I don't suspect hardware, at least not a hw failure. I had FreeBSD 8.2 installed, that worked fine. I was curious about FreeNAS and figured I'd give it a try.
I just finished an install of FreeBSD 9.0 and I think I'm going to stay here. I like the updated ZFS and I don't really need a web GUI- I can do all my ZFS and NFS/SMB by command line.

Agreed. That's why I said, "issue".;)

If you are comfortable doing it from the cli & have the free sata port, ZFS v28 is certainly a compelling enough reason to run FreeBSD 9.0 or 8.3 for that matter.
