Curious what the current new My Book has for drives in them. They are currently priced at $250 which places them at the price point of a 6TB red. If a guy was feeling adventurous enough to forgo the warranty it might be worth it to shuck 6 of them for a pool expansion......

Pretty sure the new ones are 5400RPM drives. There's discussion over at pcper and servethehome. Quite frankly this is too much of a niche forum to do a good job of duplicating all the discussion that's already been posted elsewhere, but summaries of interesting findings would be nice.

You sir, have the distinction of being the first person I have added to my ignore list...
The cost of this type of fraudulent transaction is added in to the prices I pay. *sarcasm> Thanks for this! <sarcasm*

It is profoundly reprehensible and probably outright fraud.

Walmart has a 15 day return policy on electronic devices. Just keep the receipt. Is it wrong? I think of it more as "It is their policy". You can mute/block all you want but that won't change the way they choose to do business. And their policy seems to be serving them well. Just sayin.

@jgreco, any update on your My Book tests?

Also, do the cases have seals on them that you break when opening them up? I'm starting to see these for as low at $185 on eBay. Pretty nuts for a ~$500 drive!

The cases had no apparent seals. They'd been running since April doing light burn-in duty. Looked almost exactly like this:
