Hi folks,

I need to expanding my iSCSI array i have 8 Disks 4 Disk each Vdev Im going to be upgrading my Drives to 2TB Drives 4 Disks per Vdev however what is the best way to do this i also have a Zvol for iSCSI Luns to each of my Hypervisors. Can you expand the Zvol or should I just start from scratch ? I should have 4TB Usable when i create 4 Disks per Vdev ? Example of my existing array.

If thats really a 4 way mirror in each vdev (sorry - I have difficulty getting my head around the concept for 1TB HDD, or are they SSD)
I would swap 2 disks in each mirror, resilver and then do the other two disks in each mirror. As mirrors they resilver quite fast.

Hi,

4 Disks per Vdev. Is it possible to expand the Zvol as well without loosing all VMs ?

Indeed. Did you intend to have them in four-way mirrors? ZFS allows that, but it's a pretty unusual configuration.

Of course. Edit the zvol and change the size. But whether, and how, your hypervisor(s) will take advantage of the additional space is a question you'd need to address to whatever support channels exist for that hypervisor.

Reason why i did this is because two vDevs gives me more Storage than just one vDev.
