Hi all, I was bringing my freenas server up this morning when suddenly I hear the fans kick to max speed and got over just in time to see the screen go from the freenas server menu to black with a couple errors on it. I forced a shutdown, brought it back up and everything was ok. Looked through the logs and believe I found the errors that caused the anomaly. To be clear, these errors came in immediately after a full bootup with the freenas console menu visible.

Code:

Any thoughts of the possible cause would be appreciated.

Interesting, there were similar errors for KCS in 9.3, but they did address and fix it in 9.10 (at least on my Dell C2100/FS12-TY Servers). However, those errors are generic and should not really affect the system (just more of an annoyance).

I think that perhaps you got a heating issue especially if the fans kicked in to max...

What do you have plugged into your USB ports?

Thanks for the quick reply.

Currently we do not have anything plugged into the usb ports. We're booting off of an installed hard drive. Not sure about the heating issue because this was a startup after the server had been shutdown all night.

Yeah, the messages do occur at startup and a lot more often in regards to KCS.
See the bug that I opened and got resolved here: https://bugs.freenas.org/issues/13378

Yours may be slightly different, perhaps if you have IPMI then check the BIOS to see if it is set to something like "Shared NIC" or "Dedicated NIC"? Not really familiar with your model (too lazy to look it up right now); but I have mine set to "Dedicated NIC".

Also, you may try to just disable it and see what happens; although that is not really a solution just a test.
