It's probably more related to this:

Where an end of life date has not yet been specified for FreeBSD 12.2

That will apply for things that are in plugins/jails, but for the appliance itself, you can expect new features and patches to already stop except for critical security issues.

CORE 12 is EOL, already. Update to CORE 13 ...

It would be great if that were written somewhere "official".

In the link posted by anodos it quite clearly states that 13 is THE supported version. Which implies all others are not.
