EMBY App Deploying forever

Now that I have TrueNAS working for the main things I wanted to get Emby going. I have a Dataset for the media with an accompanying share on the TN server and can happily get at this from windows. My goal was to set it up to get to it from TrueNAS (Scale) first few times I failed, with Emby sitting forever at deploying and no sign of any logs to hint at the issue. I tried a few times and this time it worked, however I had missed the bit that lets Emby access the TrueNAS stores.

When I went through again adding this Emby once again was deploying forever. This suggests the issue is with the mounting of the TrueNAS share in the Container that Emby is running in. I am not sure why though. I am guessing it might be an ACL issue but I am not sure what that might be. I hoped for a pointer to an install doc in the catalogue but it does not have that (might be good for future though ;-) ). So here I am trying to see if anyone else has encountered and solved this problem.

Are you using Scale bluefin?
With bluefin iX implemented a hostpath validation, which means if you use the same path for a smb share and hostpath the app won't deploy.
The quick but dirty way would be to disable the hostpath validation.
The better way right now would be to create a child dataset, place your movies or whatever inside the child dataset and use that for the hostpath and the parent dataset for the smb share.

Yes I am, and that makes a lot of sense for the issues I am seeing. I have some other areas that I would want to share via emby too so I will look at what you said in terms of an SMB share hierarchy and see if that solves the issue. As I am a newby to TrueNAS I have a tendency to try to keep the number of Datasets to a minimum, feels like I need to embrace a new way of working

try this as structure:
smb share: /mnt/yourpool/Media
Hostpath: /mnt/yourpool/Media/Emby

Inside that Emby share you can structure it with subfolders for movies, tv shows, pictures etc.
If you set the correct permissions emby should have no problems detecting your media.

And think of Datasets as "Folders", nothing wrong with adding just another Folder

That sounds good to me. I will organise that and see what happens. Thank you for all the help, the community responses here are really good. Definitely glad I moved from QTS
