SOLVED Drives do not appear when in hot swap bay: ASUS P9D-C/4L

I'm building a NAS for video storage and am having a problem getting my drives recognized.
Running
Asus p9D-c/4L
16 gig of ram
Silver Star rm212 case w/ backplane included.
Running FreeNAS on a separate ssd straight to sata on motherboard.
Drives don't show up when in hot swap bay. They power up and spin. On the back plane there are 3 mini sas to 4 sata plugged which go-to the MB satas. I'm missing something.

Yes thank you. Was using the wrong mini sas cables. Ordered forward needed a reverse breakout cable. Drives showed right up. I didn't know there were 2 types and had a 50/50 chance to order the right ones off amazon. Thanks for the follow up.
