hi guys,

i have a raid card, this one below

http://store.lsi.com/index.cfm/3ware-Controllers/SATA-II-PCI-Express-with-RAID-6/9650SE-16ML/

my question is i have 16x1TB drives and i dont want any of them to be h/w raided as i want the ZFS software RAID on freenas to to it

i can delete the existing raid partitions on the bios of the card and that leaves me to see all the 16 drives (which i want) and when i save and exit, wait until i can get onto the freenas website none of the 16 drives appear under disks

any solution to this problem, i may be being abit dumb

thanks

rob

when i created the RAID for each disk it didn't give me an option, the only option in the RAID drop down menu was "Separate Disk"

got that one sorted

ive fired up freenas again and i can see all my disks, which is good under "view disks" BUT when i want to create a volume in "ZFS Volume Manager" it still groups all the disks together, which is not what i wanted at all as i wanted them to show up as seperate disks and then i could group them altogether as RAIDZ 6

A friend had your exact controller in FreeNAS. If you are using the latest firmware there's a key combo you press to make the JBOD options appear. They are "hidden" and don't make themselves known unless you press the appropriate combination of keys. Once you've setup all 16 drives in JBOD, then FreeNAS will allow you use the disks properly.

I don't remember the key combo since I haven't used that card in over a year(and he's got an M1015 now) but if you do some searching I'm sure you'll find it.
