Does DDR4 ECC 3200 MH/t run in a Supermicro X11SSL-F Board?

Maybe someone knows a bit more than I do

I know it won't run with 3200 MH/t but - if at all - with 2133 oder 2400 depending on the CPU.

I would like to use 4x 16 of these RAMs https://www.kingston.com/de/memory/server-premier/ddr4-3200mts-ecc-unbuffered-dimm "KSM32ED8/16HD"

Do the rams need a jedec profile in the spd for 2400 / 2133 to be recognized or will they run at 2133 / 2400 even if they "only" have a 3200 profile?

You should be able to manually adjust the RAM speed in the BIOS if needed. If you do not know what you are doing, then don't do it. If you tweak the voltages you could cause serious damage.

On all my other server boards I cannot adjust this - they probably use the SPD settings.

Adjusting RAM speed and voltage is only available on my homeuser boards.

I get the board next week but without RAM - my other servers are still using DDR3 ECC xD

I've never seen a motherboard locked for RAM adjustments, although there is a lot of things I haven't seen, like 3 million dollars. I would love for that to materialize in my savings account.

DDR4-3200 is a bit over the top for Skylake systems. I wouldn't be surprised if you ran into issues.

The tested memory list for the X11-SSL-F on Supermicro's site only list one type of DDR4 ECC 3200 memory and it's not the stuff you linked to.

thats the reason why I asked here - the information on the supermicro page is obviously outdated and old - not even the max memory amount ist correct - the x11sff-l does run with 128.

While I will say that is it possible due to a firmware upgrade to use different memory (we see these things often in BIOS upgrades), but typically those changes are documented in the firmware upgrade notes, but sometimes they may only say "improved stability". But no manufacturer will update a user guide when firmware notes can take care of it.

I have no doubt that you could get a faster rated speed RAM to work at a slower speed but as for it being automatic, maybe, maybe not, but that also does not mean the RAM will operate at the AM top speed either. And as for recognizing larger RAM modules, I will say it's possible.

The only way to know for certain is to get the hardware and run MemTest86 and have it recognize all the RAM and then let it test for a solid month to prove some stability. You will also need to run other tests to validate the motherboard as a whole is stable. Without testing, we are just guessing.

Hmmm that's bad luck for me no one actually really never tried to test 3200 MH/t ram on a XEON V5 or in this board :D

I ordered tested kingston 2666 and "only" 64 Gb ... which probably is more enough for this server.

My other servers with the same storagesize only run with 32.

They have specialized in "Over-Ramming" and I specifically asked - they did test it (the company I work for now and then buys from them, as "we" are using extremly large computer systems - e.g. with many TBytes of RAM)

My board is not flashable when starting the flash process it reports back - "write protected" - as far as I could see I would need an Intel Update?

It's the same message as on this X8 board.
