DNS Inconsistencies on FreeNAS box

I've got a really weird on here that I'm at a loss to explain.

Work have a freeNAS box that works perfectly most of the time but for some reason (and I suspect someone changed something but no one is owning up), the DNS settings are inconsistent.

If I go to the DNS settings in the GUI, I can see the internal DNS servers - that's all good.
If I go to the console and look at resolv.conf it shows:

# Generated by resolvconf
nameserver 127.0.01

If I change the DNS servers in the GUI it doesn't update the resolv.conf
If I change them via 6) Configure DNS at the console it doesn't update the resolv.conf

I have noticed that I get a 'call timeout' on that page though.

Name resolution is not working so AD Integration is broken.

This is FreeNAS-11.2-U5

Same here. I was able to update to 11.2 U5 with changing the DNS entries in resolv.conv. The ones in the GUI does not work.

I spun up a FreeNAS box on a VM and tested out changing the DNS and it was all fine.

I *suspect* a bug in the 11.2 U5 jail creation, no idea what but more digging required.

I should also add that a reboot regenerates the resolv.conf file with just localhost as DNS.

Yeah there is at least one that is connected with this issue.

it seems that i had Domain Controller service set to auto-start, without actually having any settings for Domain Controler. Removing it fixed the problem.
