Difference between /conf/base/etc and /etc

Greenhorn question...
What is the difference between /conf/base/etc and /etc.
I know that to implement changes to the system I have to edit /conf/base/etc but what is the reason that this directory replicates files from /etc?

You should be able to locate that answer on the forums so I'll let you look a bit harder. Google is your friend, look up something like "freenas /conf/base/etc" and see what you come up with.

My question to you is, why do you need to make modifications in the etc directory? Tell us what you are trying to do and odds are we can point you in the right direction.
