Deploy suggestion of FreeNAS on a Dell Server?

Hi, all,
I have a Dell R740xd2 Server, which has :

1. 12*3.5' SATA Disk, and 24* max.
2. Dell H730 RAID Adapter

I want to make this server a nas server with freenas, and I want to:

1. Install freenas in a usb flash driver, so I can free the sata disk, or may be I can buy two flash driver to make a os mirror?
2. Make the 12 SATA driver as storage, so how can I deal with the RAID Adapter? I will buy more disks in the future, so the suggestion is make all 12 disks as a whole disk group in raid card, or make them as 12 seperate disk, and using zfs in freenas?
3. Because disks may be broken, and replace with new one, both zfs and RAID can make no data loss, which is better?
