hi all.
i have the following hardware
Dell poweredge r720
32gb ram
710 flashed to IT (working great)
24tb (4x4tb sas, 4x2tb sata)
128gb ssd (boot)
500gb (vm)
vmware esxi v7 - vm - TrueNAS-12.0-U1.1)

i have been running vmware esxi v7 for over a year now and have updated the vm to TrueNAS-12.0-U1.1
but i have a lot of problems as not able to updates from with in system/update and unable to install anything from plugins
i have enough storage to make a back up and do a full wipe and re-install
would it be best to make another vm set up or direct on the hardware and are there any tuts about for this u2 dell poweredge r720 server
or can anyone help to get a really good system up and running
if honest it will only be a freenas/truenas server with no other os

Hi,

For what its worth you will be much better off running FreeNAS/TrueNAS bare metal and for Virtualization use a dedicated hypervisor and just create a iSCSI LUN on the 720 and run all VMs over iSCSI you can use NFS but it is up to you.
