Deleting Boot Environment(s)

How long should you keep previous boot environments for or should you just keep them all?

I have had the occasion to revert back to a previous environment twice now since I have been running Free/TruNAS, but have kept all previous environments, going back to "initial-install" and "default".

Should the old environments be deleted?

Thanks.

There's no need to keep boot environments you can't return to. For example, once you've upgraded from 11.3 to 12.0, and upgraded ZFS feature flags, it's not possible to return to 11.3.

I keep only the last 3 boot environments and I avoid upgrading the ZFS features flags to be able to revert back to a previous version of TrueNAS.

Thanks Samuel, that's what I thought.

However, what about the "default" and "initial-install" environments. Do you eventually delete those as well?

Yes, I deleted both those boot environments. I only run with at most 2 boot environments: the current and the immediately previous versions.
