Well, the long SMART test didn't complete, but it didn't find any errors while running. The drive's too hot, but otherwise the SMART results look fine.

can't do much about the heat it in the cool basement in a FreeNAS mini so that down to the case specs I guess

What temp should it be?

i have 6 drives and they range from 29-31c

A hard drive should not be 48C in a basement in a FreeNAS Mini. I'd recommend you check the fan on the back of the chassis and make sure it is spinning and is exhausting air.

I did have the case off so the fan was not pulling air over the drives
So I have put it back on and we can see where it is tomorrow

Yeah, you should NOT be running the system for more than a few minutes with the case off. With the case off there is no air going over the drives and you'll cook them in their metal coffin. That would explain the high temperatures for sure.

My Mini died and had to reboot at which point the it didn't find the boot drive :smile:
Which of the bios boot setups do I need to reset that in I manually picked from the boot menu

tried to reset all the cables but still getting errors

It looks like I am missing an drive tried to use
dd if=/dev/ada1 of=dev/null bs=4096
dd: /dev/ada1: Permission denied
[pbearne@bearne-nas ~]$ sudo dd if=/dev/ada1 of=dev/null bs=4096
dd: dev/null: No such file or directory

to work which drive to pull but as you can see a got an error

thoughts?

to run. But I am not seeing any solid lights on the drives

Is there a setting to disable them? or have got he command wrong

I don't know if it'll help here but I made a script to pair the drives identification infos, look at the useful scripts link in my signature if you're interested ;)
