The I/O graph in the GUI show zero activity on /dev/da4.

Is there anything more I can do before replacing the disk?

If for some reason you can still access your data you need to backup the most important stuff first then backup the other stuff. I would then check your sata cables and post your smart data for each drive. Your pool is probably not going to survive this. You should have automated tests and email configured so you know about these things sooner.

I have access to the data and I am backing it up now.

About the system, my freenas is a virtual machine in an Vsphere 5.5 host with an LSI card connected directly to the VM.

1. Don't use FreeNAS in a VM unless you know what you are doing.
2. You have a bunch of UDMA_CRC_Error_Count errors. This usually means bad data cables or bad controller.

Or maybe a bad PSU :)

These drives have not seen a single test of their lives, bad thing. --> setup some automated SMART tests.

And 5x 3 TB drives in a RAID-Z1, more bad thing. --> read the don't use RAID-Z1 article (link is in my sig).

Thanks for all the input.

I have now shut down freenas and pulled out and put back all cables and checked the kontroller card. It now looks better. One of the drives, the same that had failed is resilvering.

The data I have on these drives is not that important, but if I stumble on a good price on another 3TB drive i might add it.

Code:
[root@freenas] ~# zpool status
  pool: freenas-boot
state: ONLINE
scan: scrub repaired 0 in 0h1m with 0 errors on Mon Mar 9 03:46:15 2015
config:

    NAME STATE READ WRITE CKSUM

      da0p2 ONLINE 0 0 0

errors: No known data errors

  pool: media_z1
state: ONLINE
status: One or more devices is currently being resilvered. The pool will
continue to function, possibly in a degraded state.
action: Wait for the resilver to complete.
scan: resilver in progress since Tue Mar 17 23:17:14 2015

I believe restarting FreeNAS clears any errors, so I would suggest that results so far are inconclusive.

You know you can't just add a disk to a vdev, right?

In fact you can, but it's probably not what you want... Read the ZFS guide made by cyberjocks for more info (link is in my sig) ;)

No, @Robert Trevellyan was correct--with the exception of converting single disks to mirrors, or adding disks to mirrors (e.g., turning a 2-disk mirror into a 3-disk mirror), neither of which you can do from the GUI and neither of which are relevant here, you can't add a disk to a vdev. You can add single disks to a pool, but as you say, that's rarely what you want to do.

@iFredrik, make sure you've set up regular SMART tests on your disks. I run a short test daily and a long test weekly; others don't do the long test quite as often, but at least once a month would be a good idea. A scrub every couple of weeks would also be a good idea. Eventually, if you value your data, you'd be well-advised to back up your data and set up a RAIDZ2 pool instead.

Hi

If I add a extradisk i will do it soon, after I have moved all data I can to my old NAS. All really import data is also on my main computer and in the clouds.

It still look "goodish" today, the array is still active but degraded so I need to get some proof that the disks are bad so I can return them within warranty.
Not the same disk is bad today. Today it is fd4d0102.

SMART: I have added my email via GUI so I will get mail but I read that setting up a cron job would be better. I assume this is what you use. Can you post your cronjos?

I will have to check all the cables again. To bad SFF-8087 to sata is nothing one have extra at home so I can test a new.

If I run "smartctl -H /dev/dax" all disks gets a PASS.

Setting the email is not enough (but is a good start), you must set the SMART tests too. You'll be informed with an email if there is a problem but not if there isn't. If you want to be informed of the status of your drives even if there is no problem, then you'll have to add a script and setup a cron task to execute this script after the SMART tests (see the link "Useful Scripts" in my sig for example) ;)

Yeah, that means nothing like what you think it means. There's a reason why nobody here ever tells you to run that to find out if your disk is good or not.
