Well, I'm about to give up on having a reliable VM in phpVirtualBox because I need the thing to actually run somewhat reliably. It appears that the Linux Kernel may have been borked up via an update of some sort. If I can get this bad boy up and running, I will do the Linuxy hotness work and prevent it from doing anything silly.

However, here is what I've got so far.

root@virtualbox1:/usr/home/brodey # su vbox
$ VBoxManage list vms
"GitLab-Ubuntu" {66b1a411-a2bd-4a27-a8b8-ed84a140ecf6}
$ VBoxManage startvm GitLab-Ubuntu --type headless
Waiting for VM "GitLab-Ubuntu" to power on...
VBoxManage: error: The virtual machine 'GitLab-Ubuntu' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1
VBoxManage: error: Details: code NS_ERROR_FAILURE (0x80004005), component Machine, interface IMachine

I'm going to see if I can access the VM's storage and see what's going on there. Please help!

Awesome and thank you. I've been out of the PC-BSD (Now TrueOS with Lumia)/FreeNAS realm for a while so I'm not caught up on the cutting edge of things.

I've reverted my FreeNAS setup and will schedule a roll out to iohyve.
