Create new boot-pool from running system

I did something very stupid with my FreeNAS 11.2-U7 installation...
One of the two USB pen drives in my freenas-boot pool died. It was shown as DEGRADED, while the other one was still ONLINE.
I detached the degraded drive in the UI and then removed one of them - unfortunately I got the wrong one and only noticed this after I found out it was still working by formatting it and writing some data to it on my PC.

So the working drive contains no data any more. I could get the other one up as DEGRADED and even attach another pen drive. It takes quite long to resilver, but I don't have much hope this will be functional.

I did make a fresh backup of the configuration, so I am optimistic it will be possible to get the system back completely in the end.

Before I install it from scratch and use this backup, I wanted to ask if there is a simpler way while the system is still up and running?
Is it possible to regenerate the boot pool from this running system?
This could reduce the downtime to a minimum and help me get a better understanding of how the system works...

Thanks in advance for your help with this!
