My FreeNAS CrashPlan (4.3.3) is working fine on my LAN; CrashPlan (4.4.1 and 4.3.0) Macintosh clients are backing up without a problem.

However, remote CrashPlan (4.4.1) Macintosh clients report that CrashPlan (4.3.3) is not available. I've spent a good week trying to figure out how to bring remote clients back online. I'm weary and probably missing something obvious.

Would someone please give me ideas on what/where to look for the cause of this problem?

Thank you.

getting all systems running the same version of Crashplan

Fracai:

Thank you for your suggestions.

Macintosh CrashPlan 4.4.1 appears to work fine with my my FreeNAS 4.3.3 over my LAN; the connection problems occur only over the internet. I'm thinking that I must have some CrashPlan configuration error that's foiling its NAT Traversal for Internet connections. Since 4.4.1 works for LAN connections, I figured that 4.4.1 wouldn't be the cause of WAN connection problems. Do you disagree?

Regarding updating versions ...

My understanding is that this is supposed to happen automatically when the CrashPlan service starts; it contacts crashplan central and decides whether to update.

I'm not aware of any way to force an update.

Are you?

Thanks again.

You could reinstall the latest version, but there's probably some other issue to fix that would resolve the connectivity and the upgrade issue.

Have you looked at the Crashplan troubleshooting pages? They might call out something to look for in the logs.

Also, clearing the cache did clear up some connectivity issues for me.
