Hi Guys

Sorry for the late reply's as I have been trying to sort this out on my own with no luck.
pirateghost sorry for sounding like a dumb ass but as I mentioned above in my first post this is my first crack at Freenas.
I have read up on the adding storage, Permission, jail and anything else that would help me try to achieve the above first post scenario.
Yes it would be easier just to pull the SSD out but I did purchase it for this reason and if I don't use it, it will just sit in a cupboard.

Why? Why do you care where the Plex database is? I guess access might be marginally faster if it's on an SSD, but is that really something that's a concern for you? This just seems like you're adding complication to your configuration for no reason. But, if you insist on doing it this way, here's how I'd do it:
I have given the above a ago with jails sitting in /mnt/MediaVolume/jail on the raidzx array.
The Plex_database was setup on the SSDpool drive but still did not work as all the files went to the raidzx array jails folder dataset
At this time Plex is not my concern Crashplan is.

Or, what might be a simpler way to go about it:
  • Install both the Plex and Crashplan jails (as well as any future jails) to the SSD pool
  • Create a dataset on the main pool for Crashplan's backup storage
  • Mount that dataset to the Crashplan jail
With this configuration, the Crashplan software itself is running on the SSD, along with the Plex software. But the data that your backup clients are saving to the Crashplan plugin is going onto your main (i.e., HDD) pool, not the SSDs.

What I would really like is for Crashplan to work as the above mentioned.
I have tried 5 or 6 different setup and for the hell of me this can not be achieved.
What ever I do the backup save the files where the jail plugin's sit.

This is not working for me.
I have Freenas 9.3 Stable installed.
I have followed a couple of different set up's from the Freenas forums and the one attached and up dated the crashplan plugin to 4.5.2 using the shell gui.
Installed Bash as required.
What the F**k am I missing.
Has it anything to do with permission?
I have tried to mount and unmount storage with no luck
Is there any where in the crashplan shell where it shows the storage folder?

yes yes I have no f*****g idea but at least I am giving it a go.
Crashplan jail on SSD, Backups on raidzx array this is all I want.

What is the path of your main pool? What is the path of your ssd pool? What if the path of your jails and crashplan? What is the path to the data you want to backup to crashplan?

I'm going to lay out exactly what you need to do. It's very simple but you seem to be missing something. Hopefully seeing it done once will help you understand.

Yes. When you add storage to a jail, the source is the location within FreeNas, and Destination is the location within the jail. So if you configure your crashplan storage like this:

Then list the directories - the source from within freenas, and the destination within the jail - they will be the same.

Ok path to main pool is (MediaVolume),path to crashplan is (Crashplan), ssd pool is (SSDpool), path to jails is (jails).
The path to the data I want to backup to crashplan? is from my (local PC) where I have Crashplan 4.5.2 installed
I have used the link https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/crashplan-not-updating.40374/ from the six post mastax to setup crashplan and also upgraded it to 4.5.2 as per there guides.
Below is a screen shot of my storage folder if this helps.

Capture.PNG

I have run crashplan again and you can see that it has stored the files in the jails/crashplan_1 dataset again 102.5GiB
I will add more files to crashplan over night from my local PC to check if it fills the storage.

As per depasseg reply I have attached the jail storage for the source and destination.
Also the freenas shell screen shot where it is nothing like yours.

Am I suppose to create a zvol under the dataset?

No.

Where is your crashplan plugin configured to save incoming backups? Because they aren't going in /mnt/Crashplan.

You need to configure the crashplan application to save backups to /mnt/Crashplan.

I know this, This is why I am asking for an example.
No matter what I try it all ways backs up to the jail.

You need to configure the crashplan application to save backups to /mnt/Crashplan.

/mnt/crashplan is not in the source folder but it is in the destination folder which is on the Freenas raidzx array as you can see on the above storage screen shot.
I do set up the storage in the jails add storage section.
OR is it suppose to be done in the shell gui?

You need to set it up in the Crashplan app.

Hi Guys

With a lot of playing around with the Crashplan app I have finally got the bloody thing working.
I would just like to say thank you to everyone for your help and being patient with me.
I must say there must be an easier way to set this app up.
All the guilds show us how to install it onto the Freenas and to get the app up and going on the local PC but not how to set up the with a raidzx array and a stripe SSD.
I just like to make thing complicate I suppose.
Thanks all again

There is nothing special about your setup. Imagine it is just multiple pools. Ignore any ssd aspect.

All the guides show you how to install the PC part because installing a jail/plugin is child's play. You just install your plugin or jail and configure the storage. Nothing special about that.
