Crashplan not backing up

I've been advised to start a new thread for my Crashplan problem. My backups stopped working a few months ago and I cannot figure out what is going wrong. The desktop GUI is no longer connecting to the service even after a new install. Can I just uninstall the jail and reconfigure everything as a fresh install without loosing the backups I've already created on the Crashplan servers?

crashplan is complicated and not supported very well on freebsd.

I have seen and commented on that post to no avail.
