Hello guys,

i never used before CP on freenas, so i decided to test it on freenas, currently i use it on my windows desktop.

i tried 2 different guides, but always get same problem, from CP UI, it can't connect to servers.

1. first guide i used is: http://gavowen.ninja/2016/04/setting-up-a-crashplan-freenas-plugin-jail/
and
2. and second one: https://forums.freenas.org/index.ph...an-in-freenas-9-1-jail-tested-on-32bit.14099/

boths installs fine, i able to connect my CP UI from desktop to them, but i always get
Code:
Unable to connect, check your network
error

i run FreeNAS-9.10-STABLE-201606270534 (dd17351)
i tried with both,
ip from dhcp to freenas and jail
and static ip in freenas and jail.

i able to ping any domain from freenas and jail, able to download cp ja java files in jail
but CP is not able to connect

in service.log file i have these records:
Code:

i also tried to increase CP mem settings and add google dns to resolv.conf, as sugested in this thread:
https://forums.freenas.org/index.php?threads/crashplan-plugin-cant-login.28066/

but no go

i have no more ideas to get it work,
last idea, on a weekend i try to setup freenas 9.3 with cp in virtual machine using first guide.

Try searching???

Hi millst,

i know how to use search, i already discovered a lot of threads with same problem,
some of them do have a solutions but they didn't worked, but the biggest part of searched threads are without any solution.

so if you cannot help, next time eat a snicker ;)

Ok, guess your UnresolvedAddressException is different then. I just checked my setup and it is still connected.

It seems like most people are just going the VM route. as CP is unsupported and a big hassle on FreeBSD.

on a weekend i try 9.3 with CP, as most guides i found got it work
only problem with 9.3 i found
is jail should be with static network configuration, as dhcp jail doesnt get ip.

if i get it work with 9.3 i rollback from 9.10 and open a ticket

In your post, you said you followed two guides, one of which is for FreeNAS 9.1 32bit(!), and almost 3 years old, and you said you tried one fix from over a year ago for a different CrashPlan version. That is hardly "a lot" of threads.

Crashplan problems are not new around here, and there are at least three threads that I can think of off the top of my head with 10+ pages. The recommendation to search is not flippant. I would almost guarantee that the solution to your problem is in one of the many CrashPlan threads here in our forums.

i able to ping any domain from freenas and jail

Your error messages indicate that Java is unable to resolve central.crashplan.com. Look at modifications to run.conf that people make. Also, confirm you can resolve central.crashplan.com from within the jail.

to be honest i tried much more diffrenet solutions to this problem, even changed resolv.conf, host.conf under "jails/crashplan/compat/linux/etc" as i think problem is not exactly with jail, but with linux emulation inside a jail, emulated app/java couldn't get connected to internet.

Crashplan problems are not new around here, and there are at least three threads that I can think of off the top of my head with 10+ pages.
well, most of problems i found searching threads, when began to troubleshot my problem, is getting CP to start or connect UI, my problem is related to jail, as i able to connect my UI to freenas CP jail and CP service running as expected.

maybe run.conf needs different modifications, than our forum threads have.

Look at modifications to run.conf that people make
the modification already made
Code:
SRV_JAVA_OPTS="-Djava.nio.channels.spi.SelectorProvider=sun.nio.ch.PollSelectorProvider -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 -Dapp=CrashPlanService -DappBaseName=CrashPlan -Xms20m -Xmx1024m -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -Dsun.net.inetaddr.ttl=300 -Dnetworkaddress.cache.ttl=300 -Dsun.net.inetaddr.negative.ttl=0 -Dnetworkaddress.cache.negative.ttl=0 -Dc42.native.md5.enabled=false"
GUI_JAVA_OPTS="-Djava.nio.channels.spi.SelectorProvider=sun.nio.ch.PollSelectorProvider -Dfile.encoding=UTF-8 -Dapp=CrashPlanDesktop -DappBaseName=CrashPlan -Xms20m -Xmx512m -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true -Dsun.net.inetaddr.ttl=300 -Dnetworkaddress.cache.ttl=300 -Dsun.net.inetaddr.negative.ttl=0 -Dnetworkaddress.cache.negative.ttl=0 -Dc42.native.md5.enabled=false"

Also, confirm you can resolve central.crashplan.com from within the jail.

+1. VirtualBox jail, install your favorite flavor of Linux (Ubuntu LTS works well), export the desired shares via NFS, mount them inside the VM, install CrashPlan in the VM, and you'll be set.

well, temporary solution is much easier (found in some older forum topic)

in jail
/etc/hosts

add all *.crashplan.com domain names with proper ip's
(all needed domains you'll get from crashplan logs: /usr/pbi/crashplan-amd64/share/crashplan/log ; /var/log/crashplan)

216.17.8.4 central.crashplan.com
50.93.yyy.yyy xxx.crashplan.com
216.17.xxx.xxx yyy.crashplan.com

but i still do not understand why java could not resolve names normally....
