Corral -> 9.10.2 (clarification please)

Hi,

I read Ericloewe's Help Thread and a simple downgrade doesnt seem possible for me because all my pools are affected by the wierd acl mode of corral, so i need some clarification if this is correct when i want to switch back to 9.10.2:

Can i just set the "restricted" acl mode on all my pools and then do a clean 9.10.2 install and import all my pools without any data loss ?
Can i use the same usb boot devices that i have in my system now for the fresh installation and still keep the corral boot enviroment in case i need to boot corral again ?
Is there anything else i need to take care of besides configuring all my settings again in 9.10.2?

Consider using the FreeNAS 11-RC, as it has support for the ZFS features in Corral.

I already did, but my system wont boot neither with 9.10.2 nor with FreeNAS11 - also FreeNAS11 is not considered stable for production use according to the help thread, so i guess my best option is to just do a clean 9.10.2 install and reconfigure everything from scratch without losing my data.

Maybe you can answer any of my questions above as well please ?

What do mean by "feature flags"

These are the features supported by a ZFS pool, what FreeNAS calls a "volume". This is what changes when you upgrade a pool.

The ACL mode is separate. The FAQ describes what to do about it.

So i should wait for 9.10.3 then ?

No you need to follow the instructions. Removing the aclmode setting and booting 9.10.2 should work. 9.10.3 will not exist.

Hey, I' at the exact same decision and I have the same error messages when trying to boot up 9.10.2, Corral 10.0.4 boots up fine. Since there is no alternative to boot up I consider to do a fresh install with 9.10.2-U3. So far my FreeNAS just worked, therefore I'm not experienced with re-installation. How and what should I backup? Thanks in advance! ;)

I came from 9.10.2 updated to Corral, updated Corral two times to version 10.0.3 and 10.0.4 and then i tried to go back to 9.10, Nightlies and FreeNAS11. All on the same boot device. Since i did not do anything special to my FreeNAS installation i figured everybody who updated to Corral should be in the exact same situation as i am, so i am still a bit disappointed that there is no real help thread dedicated to exactly that situation.

It would be really helpful if somebody can answer my questions from my initial post, since i am still not quite sure what to do right now.

You can't switch release trains like that. You have to reinstall it roll back using boot environment. Also any time you move to nighties you're 100% on your own since those are for testing only.

I understand that, but that means the software part and not the data part. I don't need support for the software or the features included with the nightlies, i asked about a way to get back to a stable version of FreeNAS, meaning 9.10.3 right now. And i dont mind reinstalling the whole system as long as my data stays intact. As far as i know the only real changes to the data part have been those two features flags (correct me if i am wrong), so again my questions from my initial post are still unanswered.

You can set that acl to passthrough for posix permissions or restricted for Windows permissions.

Then you can just use a new usb to install 9.10.2-U3. there is no 9.10.3.

I wouldn't mess with the old USB, just keep it safe for a backup.

I installed 9.10.2 from scratch and imported my pool without any issue. The only thing i did in Corral was set my volumes to the "restricted" acl mode.
You should give that a try as well, and use a new boot device and keep the Corral one for backup puposes.
