Control Truenas via API

I'm a relative newbie to FreeNAS now TrueNas. I'm wondering if you can tell TrueNas to start and stop a Virtual Machine (not a jail) via API? I want to use an external service to command TrueNas to start and stop a VM so its only running when I need it.

Any clue is this is possible?

Anything in the TrueNAS Web UI is controllable via APIs..... so, yes.
