Considering going back to 11.1U7

Hi,

I just upgraded my FreeNAS setup to 11.2U2, however, there are a ton of changes to the platform. The most crucial of them, for me, is that the jails are now using iocage, instead of the warden. Some plugins I used before are not ported yet and I'm having issues doing basic stuff (for example, I've added storage to one of the plugins and I can't seem to be able to access the data (nothing is there, except for the base folders, it doesn't seem to be a permissions issue).

Is this a common complaint and are people moving to 11.1 while 11.2 matures?

I haven't seen this particular issue come up. You may want to search open bugs. This might be something you could fix if you work on it.

That said, I've had several issues with 11.2 that have open tickets and forum posts. One system was completely unusable so I ended up installing FreeBSD and am managing it manually (I'm a Unix Admin so that's not much of a problem for me).

I don't use jails, but I am running 11.1-U7 and will continue to do so until the newer version appears stable. I suspect there are quite a few on the forum who are doing the same thing.

same here.
I really hate the new gui. Once you are familiar with the old gui you can manage thinks very fast. the new gui seems to provide me less information and requires more clicks.

regarding all the vm/ jail stuff, there was a certain point where it really pissed me off to have changes or something is not working after an update. So i went to esxi and use freenas only as a nas.

Guess you can't trust the stable label of freenas :D...

Anyway, as for open bugs, I didn't find any and I was just trying to get a feeling of what the rest of the community is thinking of 11.2 as it related with stability (my main focus, as in terms of features, 11.1 is perfectly fine for me)

Definitely not since 11.2.
Hi Meyers,

Just saw your rigs out of curiosity and you have been running 11.2 on production systems. Are you considering going back to 11.1 on those or are you unaffected?

Thanks

Trust is earned and there are reasons veterans wait... ;)
Agreed, but I think the suggestions the headings of the FreeNAS download page made (23 Nov 2018 - 22 Dec 2018) didn't help. Classic example of marketing getting ahead of itself.

This was changed on 23 Dec 2018, but again only encouraged many users to move (their production systems) across to 11.2.
