Hi, I have had an old Freenas installation with an external USB 2 Tb drive connected. The old installation crashed...I now started a completely new Freenas 9.3 on USB Stick. Computer has a 13 Gb internal disk. When I connect the External USB 2 Tb disk I can see it. How to I "add" this UBS Disk to the system..I have tried "add disk" but that seems to want to transfer the content of the external disk to the internal disk...which isnt what I need and wouldnt fit of course...Adding is a volume systems will format it, which I neither want...I am stuck....

Most likely your old installation was not using ZFS for the disk format, in which case any recent version of FreeNAS will not be able to use it without reformatting it (though even then, USB disks aren't recommended with ZFS anyway). You were probably using the product that has become NAS4Free; see http://www.nas4free.org/ for more information about it.

Looking at the OP's other messages, it appears he has been using FreeNAS.

But, as danb35 said, I would guess that the USB disk uses UFS.

If you *really* want to use it (not recommended), do a fresh install of FreeNAS 9.2.1.9.

Edited message - misread it ealier
