App pools only seem to have issues if it's on a pool with encryption on the root dataset while the ix-applications datset is unencrypted itself.
Can some others that lost their apps say if this was the case for them? This is not my case, so maybe it is safer to upgrade than I thought

Huge thanks to the dev team for getting this release out the door! I've been eagerly waiting for this one, and I was delighted to see it come through.

Overall the upgrade was seamless and I haven't had any major issues. Great job all the way around!

I updates a few systems and so far no application issues but I did find that it stopped sending to my log server. I have not found a fix so get the logs to send but removing the remote server does allow to Syslog to work.

There's an extra curly-brace being added to the end of the syslog-ng directive for remote syslog target. There's a reference to fix in the PR, should be relatively straightforward to edit the relevant python file to not do that (or just delete it from the syslog-ng.conf since that file is rarely regenerated).

I upgraded my home system from 22.12.4.2 to 23.10.0 and 2 of my 4 pools failed to import on reboot. I detached them and re-imported them which resolved the issue, but an odd upgrade experience none-the-less. Apps and VMs are running fine.

I am Impressed. 5 minute update and everything works fine. As someone said previously here, this was the most boring major release :) Huge thanks for ix-systems team for doing a perfect job! (finally with new kernel I can see the temp of the cores yey)

You might be having the same issue I have
Check my ticket and see if it matches: https://ixsystems.atlassian.net/browse/NAS-124776

I had the same issue: after upgrading all my apps were gone and i saw the same error as described in the error description:

https://ixsystems.atlassian.net/browse/NAS-124776

Main Problem seems to be using an un-encrypted ix-application pool which is part of an encrypted dataset.
My luck is, that i am always using an encrypted host pool for storing my app configuration and not the (nebulous) PVS option.

My working solution for "Missing Apps after Upgrade":

  1. at first patience, no rushed installation roll backs, snapshot restoring, etc.. DON`T do that.
  2. reading throught the above atlassian ticket
  3. going to the shell, making a copy of the original files and downloading the 2 modified files
  4. and then reboot
  5. wait... wait ... wait.. hours...
Make a copy an download patched files:
cd /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/middlewared/plugins/failover_/

mv event.py event.py_orig

wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/t...ewared/middlewared/plugins/failover_/event.py
cd /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/middlewared/plugins/pool_/

mv import_pool.py import_pool.py_orig

wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/t...ared/middlewared/plugins/pool_/import_pool.py

After changing the files reboot your system and wait... be patient. I took several hours until my apps were reachable again via http and another night until the gui displayed them again. Hopefully it stays after reboot - but i will wait with reboots until an official hotfix is out...

PS: you may need to copy your backup config.json file to the ix-application pool. But i did not made any pics of that.
I tried that before i found the above solution but i didnt roll it back. I set my pool to the same pool where it was stored, but middleware threw an error with a path where the config.json ist missing:

I searched via shell and found the old config.json file (with the upgrade-timestamp in the filename) and copied it to the wanted place. But that didnt solve anything at that point and i guess its irrelevant. Nevertheless it may be part of my now working system :)

Thats mine (124782) I put it in a low priority as I assumed the L2ARC (metadata only) was working and this was just a display bug. Its now been raised to high priority (by IX) - so I may be wrong.

I updated (from my sig) HairyNAS and have left NewNAS on Bluefin as its a lot more complex with a lot more disks doing different things.

I wonder why @probain can't read that ticket - nothing I have done deliberately. Unlike some of the other posters here I had no issue with the apps - all fo which started just fine. 2 use PVC's and 1 uses hostpath for its / their configs
NAS-124782 has a pull request associated with it - of course I don't really understand it. But hey. I guess it will appear in the next version

None of my pools or datasets are encrypted and I am having the same issue.
Damn. Sorry to hear that. I haven't upgraded yet and am going to wait until I absolutely have to (and hopefully some updates by then as well).

So an update on mine.. I did a forced change of my cluster subnet from 172.16.0.0/16 to 172.16.0.0/24 and after things re-initialized, all my apps returned. However, it looks like my Nvidia gpu is not being used in my old Truecharts plex app.. Just never had the time to convert it over to the Truenas version.

Well, that's good. As far as the GPU, maybe you can get some clues out of this or this. I also use TrueCharts Plex, so would be interested if you figure that out in case I run into the same issue.

iXsystems is pleased to release TrueNAS SCALE 23.10.0.1! This is a small hotpatch to address issues reported by the community after the 23.10.0 release.

Changes:

  • Fix for TrueNAS SCALE application deployment being stuck when the pool used for application management is encrypted (NAS-124776).
  • Fix issue where system logs stop sending to a remote logging server (NAS-124825).

I upgraded from 22.12.4.2 to 23.10.0.1, with ZERO issues. All TrueCharts apps started properly (I don't use any official apps), I left them initialize at their own pace and 30min later when I checked the server, everything was up and running.
Hi Daisuke,
did you just switch the train on the web ui and run the update from there without any kind of other preparations...??

I also run the 22.12.4.2 with Truecharts apps only

Yes @bacardi8, I simply switched the train from drop down menu and proceeded with the upgrade. From previous experiences, is important to be patient and let Scale initialize the apps, it takes a while. For example, it took nearly 30min to have all apps running, after initial upgrade reboot.

The only issue you might face is having the base dataset unencrypted, with a sub-dataset encrypted. I think they will release a fix on next release.

Thank you iX and @truecharts for the smooth upgrade.

I also upgraded from 22.12.4.2 to 23.10.0.1, with ZERO issues. All TrueCharts apps started properly and even fast, so very smooth,
like Daisuke said.
Only thing I have is two alerts regarding my two pools saying :

New ZFS version or feature flags are available for pool.....etc.

I dont really know how and what to do about that, what did you guys do..???
Or is this the issue mentioned above by Daisuke...??
