Hi,
i've to choice a controller for a Cisco UCS C240 M4 that i would use as SAN; I've read all the topic inherit the LSI controller and from what I've understand i should use a 12 gbps hba controller with the firmware installed on it of the same revision of the driver present in FreeNAS.
There is someone who use FreeNAS with the LSI 9300-8i card (che cisco is based on it) which successful downgraded the card to P5 and use it without problem.
Below the Cisco Controller as showed on the PDF of the Server;
