Hi all,
I come from QNAP but I like to try different NAS solution so I tried FreeNAS (8.2 Beta4 x64) but I have some issue with share permissions.
I'm not able to set different user permission for every single share, but only for the entire mounted device.....is this not possible with FreeNAS?
For example I like to create a CIFS share with name "pippo" and make this share accessible only for user1 and user 2 and then a CIFS share pluto available only for user3 and user4.

I read this guide http://doc.freenas.org/index.php/Windows_(CIFS)_Shares but I didn't find an answer.........

Tnx 4 support

Cifs

Hello Alessio,

I am new as well but what I have discovered is you set the initial access on the volume you create and then point a CIFS share to it as you did. Then on the client you open that share and create folders in it. Then right click them and change each of their permissions individually under their properties/security tab. Then go back to the FreeNas server and create CIFS shares that point to these new folders.

Hope this helps

Hello Alessio,

As I said I am new as well. I just realized you only need to create the one share to the original volume. It seems if you set the permissions on the subfolders user will access and see only the folders they have access to. Its actually much simpler than my previous solution. There is no reason to create a bunch of shares just folders with in a share.
