I'm looking to get a card like the Adaptec RAID 6805 that will allow me to run my current 8x 2TB drives but allow for future-proof compatibility with 3TB drives and beyond.

However, the 6805 seems to be poorly supported by FreeNAS:

http://forums.freenas.org/showthread.php?1564-Adding-driver-support-for-Adaptec-RAID-6805

I know FreeNAS supports the AOC-USAS-L8I, but that card doesn't support >2TB drives. And while the AOC-USAS2-L8I supports >2TB drives, FreeNAS doesn't support it.

So, what other options are there?

Thanks!

I just got the IBM Serveraid M1015 (cheap on ebay), flash it to IT mode and it works great on all of my 3tb Seagates & WD Green

Thanks for the info! Looks like that card uses the LSI SAS2008 chip, just like the AOC-USAS2-L8I card. From what I read, FreeBSD only has the driver for that chip in 8.2-STABLE and 9, and not 8.2-RELEASE (for whatever reason), where FreeNAS 8.0.4-RELEASE-p2 uses FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE-p7. What version of FreeNAS are you running? Thanks!
