When using SMB to share an Mac OS type share, enabling fruit or streams_xattr VFS object prevent me from setting Mac OS color tags. When doing so a finder pop-up appear asking for my password to change the tags (see attached pictures). Entering my credentials result in a "Permission Denied". Disabling both VFS object fixes the issue.
I'm under 11.2-RELEASE-U1

Any idea what might cause this ?

My current objects:
zfs_space,zfsacl,fruit,streams_xattr

Well, I was able to reproduce it for a little while, then the problem inexplicably went away. I have packet captures for the behavior so I'm not totally crazy. Please try this:
1) set fruit
2) reboot NAS and MacOS
3) run smbdiagnose on the Mac and reproduce the problem
4) PM me the resulting tarball.

After 2 hours of testing I was finally able to make it work. Turns out I needed the execute permission on my dataset for everybody.
