Can't find any clear instructions

Hello,

I've searched Google and these forums for a while with a lot of different phrasing and have ended up at dead ends. All I want to do is set up the networking in my empty Server 2016 VM and there is NO clear way to get a single file to the virtual machine. I have seen "full" sets of steps that have at least one or two assumptions within them that I can't get past, like how you initially load the VirtIO network driver if you can't connect the VM and TrueNAS without network sharing? I'm pretty lost and getting nowhere with the provided documentation. Please, please. It's so frustrating working with this system already.

TO CLARIFY -

1. No network on my new server 2016 VM in TrueNAS. All sources of info point to VirtIO driver which I cannot find a way to get onto the VM.
2. Apparently there's another way through SSH, but the guides to set that up assume I have two freeNAS/trueNAS systems which has got to be a bit of a rare case given the context of the function.... I need to transfer files from a Windows workstation into TrueNAS if not directly to the VM.

The simplest way is to create an ISO with the VirtIO driver on it, and then add that as a CD device to your VM.
