I installed ubuntu server within a VM so I could install the unifi controller. It looks like its up and running and ifconfig shows the server is running on 192.168.0.35 but when I use the default port of 8443 for the unifi gui it cant access the page, says connection refused. I also installed webwin for the hell of it and it works so I know 35 is the right ip. Any suggestions?

Freenas version and hardware specs required for all posts.

Did you try using https and http?

I'll also add that running it in a jail is super easy and less overhead than a vm.

Right now I'm testing it all in VMware while I wait for my hardware to be shipped. I'm using freenas 11 nightly.

Forgive since I'm a noob I was looking into it on a jail buy got confused since it's bsd not Ubuntu. Do you have a link to a tutorial I can use.

Just Google it but it will be something like.

pkg install java-stuff
portsnap fetch extract
cd /use/local/ports/stuff/unifi5
env BATCH=yes
make install clean

For your VM did you turn on the virilization emulation for the VM?

Output of ifconfig in the jail? Output of netstat -na | grep 8443? Did you make sure to try the http and https ports? Unifi defaults to https.
