Cannot get p7zip to work

I am using FreeNAS 8.3.1
I am trying to install p7zip. Per the wiki article Installing non-PBI Software (Revision as of 14:14, 20 June 2013 by Dru) I used the command pkg_add -r p7zip and it seems to have installed correctly. Unfortunately I am not able to use the 7z command outside the jail unless I use jexec 1 7z. Worse, even when I'm inside the jail I cannot access the directory outside of the jail that contains the archive I want to extract. Do I need to create a mount inside the jail or something? What am I doing wrong?

Should that option be available in 8.3.1, because I don't see it.

Yes, I have a mount point for my Transmission downloads.

Source: /mnt/tank/storage/Downloads
Destination: /usr/pbi/transmission-amd64/etc/transmission/home/Downloads

Transmission works well by the way, and the archives I want to extract are located in the source directory I mentioned above.
