Can on board X9DR3-F Supermicro mini-sata (x4) be used for Truenas?

There is a difference, namely that performance tends to be miserable.

Do you think there is still an issue using the JBOD mode of the SAS2208 firmware?

The JBOD mode of the SAS2208 firmware is not sufficient. Please see

Thanks for sharing that post. It has certainly gotten more details since the last time I read it. I had remembered it was focused on the RAID workaround using the virtual drives which clearly was a nightmare. That is why I moved the pools from the 2208 controller to the SATA to see that was not being hidden. The drive type is showing up at boot time as you can see. I have tested smartdrive stats successfully. I see from the article that these indicators are good but not sufficient.

I have an IT mode HBA I can put into that machine. I was hoping to save a slot and some watts. Thanks for the warning. When it comes to data, no surprises is the best.

I have shuffled my motherboards a little the 2208 equipped MB has 10 MB SATA connectors and it is a 8 drive chassis. That means I don’t need to use the 2208. My other board had 2308 with IR firmware. That will drive the 2x 12 drive expander backplanes.
