Can I cross flash a SAS9220-8i the same way as a SAS9240-8i?

Well, LSI sure doesn't want anyone to know there supposedly is an LSI SAS 9220. Their website yields nothing.

Does it have an identifiable LSI SAS 2008 controller? If so, it should be like the M1015...

Ah, the Model number was written on a sticker on the back of the unit. It was on the upper left and that was it's number. I couldn't find anything concrete about it, so I became worried. I'll pull it from my server and check for that LSI SAS 2008 controller. I'm guessing it's a chip on the board right?

It's probably heatsinked, unfortunately.

However, there may be silkscreening with relevant information (Card model number, what the big heatsinked chip is, ...). One site suggested it may be the same as an M1015, can you supply a picture?

It's a M1015. I flashed it, but now Windows Server 2012r2 won't work with it. Linux sees it just fine. I'm holding off on FreeNAS until I have the harddisks I'll need for the pool. So for now, it's Ubuntu Server with a custom compiled kernel for aufs.
