Hi guys,

Using FreeNAS-9.10.2-U2

So I got this by email in the daily security run output.

Code:
kernel log messages:
(da5:umass-sim1:1:0:0): READ(10). CDB: 28 00 00 c0 61 81 00 00 d4 00
(da5:umass-sim1:1:0:0): CAM status: CCB request completed with an error
(da5:umass-sim1:1:0:0): Retrying command
(da4:umass-sim0:0:0:0): READ(10). CDB: 28 00 00 c0 61 81 00 00 d4 00
(da4:umass-sim0:0:0:0): CAM status: CCB request completed with an error
(da4:umass-sim0:0:0:0): Retrying command

I don't even know what it means... any reason to worry?

This message is telling you that the drives da4 and da5 are having problems. This could be something simple like a bad data cable or more severe as a failing hard drive. Take a look at the Hard Drive Troubleshooting Guide (link in my signature) and test your drives out. If that does not resolve it or you have more questions then post back here again. Also this could be a one-time error but you can't bank on that, you need to check the system out.

Good Luck!

Hi,

since when do you see this kind of error?
Every day, or just today?

It's the first time I see the error!

I will investigate and follow the Hard Drive Troubleshooting Guide.

@BlazeStar If you have power management enabled for da4 & da5, disable it on both, reboot system, and see if the camstatus errors still exist. Some motherboards & SATA controllers don't play well with power management and will vomit consistent camstatus errors, resulting in command timeouts elsewhere (for example, shutdown won't complete, whereas reboot does).
  • If power management isn't the issue, once you reboot, you'll see the same camstatus errors during in the boot log.
