I am looking to build a NAS with a total of 4 8TB SSDs with expand ability to at least 8 drives. My thoughts right now are:
  1. ASRock X570D4U Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard
  2. AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 3.4 GHz 8-Core Processor (because of transcoding plex and docker service)
  3. AIO cooler or custom loop.
  4. 4 x Samsung 870 QVO 8 TB 2.5" Solid State Drive
What I am wondering is if there is a recommendation for case. I am relatively certain I dont need hot swap. If a drive died I could shut down the server and replace it. I have looked at a few hot swap cases and they seem overkill and will limit liquid cooling. I have debated just using a standard case with a custom fabricated rack because most cases dont come with 8 slots for SSDs and many of them are still built to take HDDs. One thought is fabricating a rack out of alumunum (which would be a nice heat sink anyway. Suggestions?

What's your budget for the case?
What form factor do you want it in? Rackmounted or desktop?
