Hey guys,
Correct my terminology if I'm wrong (I believe CIFS is windows sharing):
My problem lies with my system watching movies or videos. During mkv playback 10GB+ playback is crisp and fluid for about 30-60 seconds then it freezes and resumes playback. This happens several times through a movie.
Few remedial actions I took thinking it would fix the problem:
1) Hardwired CAT6 of client (Made the problem worse).
2) Upgraded CPU from AMD E350 to G3220.
3) Removed SATA PMP and now using an Asus H87I-PLUS.
4) Hardwired FreeNAS box.
Both connections are connected to the network at Gbit speeds.
FreeNAS Box:
Intel G3220
16GB GSkill RAM
Asus H87I-PLUS
5 x WD 2TB Greens
Client:
3770K
32GB RAM
Gene V
OCZ Revodrive 3 X2
WNDR3700v4 Wired both ends, initial one acting as DHCP server, second acting as a wireless AP (client is hardwired into the AP).
Again, I've done an xfer from the freenas box to the client (35GB 3D mkv) and its holding steady at around the 55MB/s mark - Probably nothing to shine home about but I know that bandwidth isn't an issue between the two.
As far as I can see it, the hard drives buffer a certain amount and then go to sleep(?) then need to wake up again which is causing the intermittent freezing. Any tweaks I can play around to solve this?
