BTW I will try updating the plugin to 2.x this weekend. if you want to stick with 1.4 you just need to not click the update button. also the older pbi will still be available from download.freenas.org

Any update on this? Sure would be handy as I can't connect existing BTSync 2.0 shares to my freenas server. I can connect 1.4 to 2.0 all day long but 2.0 will not allow a 1.4 app to connect to it.

BtSync 2.X is currently broken on FreeBSD.

I've been running 2.0 in a VirtualBox jail on Debian Linux and it isn't much better. The new version has had a lot of problems. Might be wise to let the dust settle a little.

While you're letting the dust settle on BTSync, you might want to take a look at AeroFS. Your always-on node headless node can run the TeamServer version, with API access enabled if you want the associated features (password protected and time-limited sharing links, Dropbox-style online access to your files).

I'm testing it now with a TeamServer node in a VirtualBox VM (like others around here, I'm moving away from FreeNAS plugins). So far, it's fast and stable, but time will tell.

it's sad that BTSync 2.0 is broken, however i have tried AeroFS too in the Vbox VM but they are not supporting CIFS or NFS storage, are you guys giving it it's own dataset?

I'm using the Hybrid Cloud deployment option, and the only thing I have running in a VM is one Team Server. My storage needs for synchronization are modest so I let it store everything right in the VM. Unfortunately, the Hybrid Cloud option is no longer available to new customers, as I just discovered today when I tried to set it up for a client.

If you're using Private Cloud, note that the appliance doesn't store any synced data, it's just for authentication and account management. You can still run a Team Server if you want to have an always-on peer, either on a VM or on a physical machine.

They have recently update the Linux version and the phone app. Things seem to be back to working okay now. For Linux that is.

Just add my voice to this - now that the new build is out with it fixed, I would certainly appreciate a Btsync 2.0 jail as I am not quite ready to jump ship entirely to syncthing yet.

I created an account on the forums just to say thank you for this - I tried the BTSync 2 plugin last night and it seems to work flawlessly. (edit - hmm apparently I've had an account since 2014... weird.)

Word of warning - don't try upgrading to 2 from 1.4 - create a new plugin jail and turn off your old 1.4. I got myself in a crazy mess with that :)

Is there a way to roll it back to 1.4.111? I absentmindedly updated it and immediately regret it with the craptacular 10 share limit (I have lots of shares for business files and syncthing really hammers CPU's pretty hard for simple LAN syncing :( )

You would need just install the 1.4.111 PBI from download.freenas.org

If you don't have a snapshot of your old data directory (/var/db/btsync) you would need to set it up from scratch.

Oh really don't update? What mess did you get yourself in? I have quite a few btsync jails created (to avoid the 10 folder limit) and would much prefer upgrading than.redoing them all

I couldn't get access to the web ui of BtSync :-( I'm assuming it's because when BtSync 2 installs it makes you answer a bunch of questions on first accessing the GUI, and the update maybe didn't get that loading up.

I just don't know enough about trouble shooting non-working jails and kinda wanted to start from scratch with v2 anyway using all v2 shares, rather than legacy v1.4 shares, so I didn't try too hard to fix it. You could probably get it working if you tried. It loaded up fine, so there was probably just a configuration error somewhere that could be fixed.

Also be careful with V2. By default Windows (at least - I haven't tried on my Mac yet) defaults to adding all shared folders (that were synced on the first computer you added to V2) and syncing them in their entirety. That means ANY shared folders suddenly appear on your computer until you tell them to not "sync all". Crazy stuff. Make sure you tell it to "connect" folders, rather than syncing them.

Also it will create a <sync name>(1) folder if <sync name> already exists (ie if it was already synced under 1.4). Then you have to remove that and relink to the original 1.4 folder.

I just realised re-reading my earlier post that I made BTSync v2 sound bad. It's not. It's actually really really good (I have the paid version). Much simpler to implement across many computers. And now that I have used it a bit more I realise that the issues I raised are just niggles, and it's probably good that it is designed that way. By default it WILL create a new folder for a share if you already have an existing folder, but that is easy to change when connecting to the share (just don't blindly connect shares without looking at the folders it's proposing, like I did ...). It is a good default, or else people might accidentally overwrite folders when not intending to.

Also - the "default" of syncing all, was me configuring it badly. When you install BTSync it offers you the option (depending on OS) to default to "Disconnected" Shares, "Connected" (but not synced) shares or "Synced" shares for all new shares. I foolishly selected "Synced" when what I really wanted was disconnected or connected. So yeah ... user error on my part.

Seriously BTSync v2 is awesome. The ease of management is definitely worth the cheap cost per year. Much simpler than 1.4, and (seems to be) more secure by design.
