Borked jail database(?)

I attempted an upgrade to the nightlies last night, and after the reboot, my install was in a critical state (failed update - I've attached the /data/update.failed log). It seems as if the database for the jails infrastructure got borked. No jails or plugins were started. In fact any attempt to view the jails returned a database error.

Is there anyway to recover from this?

I suggest going into the GRUB boot screen, and booting into a last-known-good configuration, sir.
