Bootable USB can be used with other system

Hi, i installed freenas on usb flash..(booted with CD).. Can that Pen drive be used with other system..? Or it will required same system on which it was installed..?

With the very small amount of information you have provided, I guess you have two systems
and only one usb flash drive. Could you tell us about the two systems (details) and exactly what you
are attempting to do witht the one flash drive?

Yes, as with every *nix that I'm familiar with, FreeNAS boot devices are not tied or tailored to the system on which they were installed. The one thing I've seen mentioned that might have to be adjusted is network settings, if you've made any changes on the original system.

The drive layout would have to be exactly the same. But why does this even matter? Get another USB stick, they are $10 for a good one.

Although very poorly worded, I don't think the OP is asking about swapping between freenas boxes (i could be wrong here), but rather installing it using one system and moving it to the actual server to be used.

This used to be the preferred method of install (install using virtualbox/vmware directly to USB) and still works to this day just fine.
