Ok so I'm a little confused.

Mind you I'm a FreeNAS and FreeBSD noobie so forgive my ignorance. I got an email update as soon as I got home in regards to the FreeNas Boot volume containing an error. I did some searching on the forum and ran zpool status -v freenas-boot.
Here's what I got:

Code:

pool: freenas-boot
state: ONLINE
status: One or more devices has experienced an unrecoverable error. An
attempt was made to correct the error. Applications are unaffected.
action: Determine if the device needs to be replaced, and clear the errors
using 'zpool clear' or replace the device with 'zpool replace'.

This happened after my scrub. Funny I'm getting an error after just having the server set up for 3 months x_X. In any case, I'm running FreeNAS off a Verbatim 16GB USB drive:

Now I'm not sure but, I went to advanced and backed up my db config successfully (I'll look up to see if there is anything else I'll have to do to backup my config). Should I just go ahead and try to reinstall FreeNAS on the USB?

I also read it might just be better to pick something like this up and install on it?

Thanks :)

IMHO, USB Sticks are not the greatest.

Good move, should always have backups of the configuration. I have tons, cuz I am paranoid like that...

Not really needed right now, if you get another USB, DOM or even old and cheap SSD. Besides; you do have the config backed up.

Sure you could as long as your system can support it.

One suggestion would be that if you have the extra SATA Ports, Power Connections and Space; maybe you want to give using 2 old SSDs (mirrored) some thought?
  1. Grab a couple old ones from eBay for about the same price as a single DOM (Example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-SSDSA...540349?hash=item25b3fdbbfd:g:0kEAAOSwK7FWhI1v).
  2. Connect them both
  3. In FreeNas, add one as a mirror for the USB
  4. Afterwards use the Replace to replace the USB with the other SSD
  5. Remove the USB and do something else with it
If desired, you could simply reinstall and select the two SSDs during installation and it will configure the mirror for you. Afterwards, simply import the configuration you backed up and you are all set as well.
