Best way to use freenas between head unit and a shelf box of drives?

Best way to use freenas I have a sata shelf with with 8X2 terrabyte drives with a pentium 4 i386 processor with 4 gigs of ram in the box.

I also have a small "Head Unit" Coraid CLN 20 with 4 gigs of ram and a Pentuim 4 64bit processor.

These 2 units used to have properitary software they connected with before i got them which is now gone. When I use freeNAS i386 8.02 I get alot of mem

errors and crashes even after adjusting the boot cfg.

Is there away to run the freeNAS from the head unit with the 64 bit proceessor and connect them up ethernet to the Shelves?? Best thought anyone?
